Proposition A

Crime Control and Prevention District

The Crime Control and Prevention District has funded public safety programs citywide for nearly 30 years.

Key Facts

  • Established by Corpus Christi voters in 1997
  • Governed by a Board of Directors appointed by City Council
  • Funded through a dedicated sales tax
  • Funds are restricted to approved public safety purposes

How is the Crime Control and Prevention District funded?

The Crime Control and Prevention District is funded through a dedicated one-eighth cent sales tax, separate from the City's general operating budget.

The Board of Directors works directly with the City and the Corpus Christi Police Department to develop and oversee a crime control budget plan focused on two priorities: keeping neighborhoods safe and improving quality of life for every resident.

What is Proposition A?

The 2026 ballot proposition asks Corpus Christi voters whether to continue Crime Control and Prevention District funding for an additional 10 years. It is not a new tax.

If the continuation is not approved, the sales tax revenue currently directed to the Crime Control and Prevention District would no longer be collected to provide funding for these specific public safety programs after April 2028.
