Biography of Sony Peronel
Sony Peronel serves as Assistant City Manager for the City of Corpus Christi, where he provides executive leadership for the departments of Public Libraries, Intergovernmental Relations, Animal Care Services, and the Health District. In this capacity, he drives collaboration across city operations, advances key initiatives, and leads efforts that strengthen services and deliver meaningful results for residents.
Previously, as Assistant to the City Manager, Sony provided high-level executive support in managing a $1.5 billion operating and capital budget and more than 4,000 employees across 29 departments. He also oversaw the operations of the Libraries, Communications (including the 3-1-1 Call Center), and Intergovernmental Relations, helping elevate service delivery and organizational performance.
Sony holds a Master’s in Urban and Regional Planning and a Bachelor’s in Political Science from the University of Central Florida. Deeply engaged in the community, he serves as an Associate Commissioner for Buc Days and a Community Investment Panelist for the United Way of the Coastal Bend. His leadership and impact have been recognized with honors, including Corpus Christi’s 40 Under 40 (2023) and the NAACP H. Boyd Hall President’s Award (2024).
He proudly calls Corpus Christi home, where he enjoys the coastal beauty with his wife and their rescue dog, Tiki.
